STUDY: Master the understanding of the role of priest in all Liturgical Services and the Great Trebnik which
includes Baptism with Chrismation, Confession, Distribution of Communion to the sick in a clinical or domestic
setting, Marriage, Unction, and the use of the Lessor Trebnik which has nearly two hundred blessings for life events,
homes, transportation modes, liturgical, religious and domestic items and for agricultural needs, etc.; Examine the
role of pastor and how it differs from the role of psychological counselor; Examine the appropriate role for priest as a
public representative within homogeneous ethnic communities and how that role differs from the role of
representative to the multi-cultural & linguistic community at large. Participate seminars regarding the balancing of
family and personal life with the demands of priesthood. Assimilate the context of priest as a representative of the
Bishop’s Apostolic Ministry in a parochial setting and the limits upon priests and their duty to defer to the Bishop on
certain pastoral, canonical and administrative issues. Understand traditional personal clerical presentation including
the beard,and demands according to rank, when and how to modify or (with the Bishop’s permission) dispense with
clerical dress in multi-cultural settings and in settings which are hostile to Orthodoxy or to Christianity in general;
Garner an understanding of monasticism so as to be informed when parishioners make inquiries and for the unhappy
possibility that the priest should become a widower. Examine strategies for relations with parish rada (committee)
and what duties might be delegated to others and what restrictions there are on absorbing non-clerical chores.
PRACTICUM: Sing and if already ordained, function as cantor and serve as deacon at all services sung in
Monastery-Institute Chapel and in the Institute’s Touring Groups (participation by audition) which sings various
concerts during the December-January and the Lenten-Paskal (Ressurrection) Seasons.
WORK: Participate in maintenance of the Temple Interior and the Vivtar. Assist with the preparing of meals, the
maintenance of the facilities and help in the offices 5 hours a week.
BENEFITS: Air-conditioned private (one person) dorm room with shared bath, meals on fast days, after Saturday
Vigil, Sunday Liturgy & Great Feast Day Services; “uniforms” i.e. appropriate matching clothing for services and off
campus performances, small cash stipend, cell phone reimbursement to motivated or exceptional students including
those with bi-lingual competence. Limited relocation allowance and/or a larger stipend for applicants/students with
demonstrable vocal music performance abilities and/or vocal sight reading abilities. Certificates to sponsoring or
endorsing jurisdiction if applicable. Placement assistance available upon completion, but not guaranteed.
