METROPOLITAN

On Saturday 7/20 October 2012, at Sv. Stephan Cathedral, Brunswick, Ohio, the
Metropolitan Rada of the UAOC-OU met holding proxies from all the Institutions and Parishes of
the UAOC-OU and did elect by unanimous vote the longest tenured, living Heirarch ordained in
and for the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, His Eminence, the Archbishop of Houston and All Texas,
Caretaker of the Carribean and the Latin American Eparchies, MAKARIOS.
On the Feasty of Druha Pokrova (Second Pokrova, and observance from the 1927 Menion of
the Kyivan Church honoring the Protection of the Theotokos) 8/21 October 2012 after Vsenoshna
(Vigil, i.e. Vespers with Utrenya) Archbishop MAKARIOS received the blue Metorpolitan’s
Mantiy and the white klobuk with diamond encrusted gold cross. On Sunday morning, following
the Trisagion (Svyatih Boze) of the Divine Liturgy, the new Metropolitan was thrice seated upon
the throne of the High Place. Subsequent to the Divine Liturgy His Beatitude received the Zhezel,
emblematic of jurisdiction.
In his remards, His Beatitude, Metropolit MAKARIOS reminded those present of the
spiritual unity of the Kyivan Church be declaring that the institutions and parishes of the UAOC-
OU welcome all person of good will who support the concept of a Kyivan Autocephalous
Orthodox Church and exhorted the faithful to begin to repay the debt owed for the hospitality of
the Diaspora for the UAOChurch during the difficult Soviet era when the Ukrainian Orthodox
Church was an illegal entity in Mother Ukrainia. His Beatitude contended that we guarantee the
preserving an Autocephalous Kyivan Church by sharing the richness of Orthodoxy with our
neighbors, colleagues, friends and acquaintances, here in the diaspora.
His Beatitude, Metropolit MAKARIOS will continue to reside and labour in the Orthodox
Village, 3011 ROE DR., HOUSTON, TX 77087-2409 USA which consists of the Monastery of
the Four Evangelists and its guest house, the Convent of the Holy Myrrh-Bearers and its guest
house, The Institute for Eastern Orthodox Studies, which is the Seminary with its seminary dorm,
The Met. HRYHORIJ Memorial Library, Musem and Archives, and the small Temple of Sv. John
Chrysostom with its attendant parish.
